Xiaozhen Li

Coming to UC Davis as a transfer student with a major in math, I was struggling. Enrolling in Chinese classes, being a Chinese tutor and going to Chinese Table (Chinese English language exchange activity), I found my values and what I love to do. I deeply appreciated my lao-shi-s (teachers’) fully supports. They enlightened me to be a lifelong learner. I have been teaching Chinese in a Chinese weekend school for three years. I want to be a Chinese teacher or a bilingual teacher in order to help people who have experienced the same language difficulties that I have. My background as a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese along with my extensive study of the English language enables me to accurately express these ideas. As a graduate of UC Davis with a major in Chinese and a minor in education, my in-depth knowledge of Chinese linguistics and pedagogy from both the theoretical and practical standpoint will enable me to help students from a variety of backgrounds. Along with my learning, I hope my experience growing up in both the Chinese and American community will also help students feel comfortable expanding their knowledge of Chinese language and culture.
