Hello! I'm Karen Xu, and I graduated from UC Davis in 2017 with degrees in Chinese, English, and Economics, with a minor in history. It sounds like an awful mouthful, I know, but it's been a ton of fun! My experiences in the Chinese department have helped me discover myself personally and academically, and have also led me to pursue a full year abroad at Peking University in China--one of, if not the, most unforgettable experience(s) of my life. The picture above is my UCEAP group from our trip to Chengde, a former imperial summer resort, in front of its famous temple. After returning to UC Davis, I served as a peer adviser for the Chinese department, which brought me closer to the faculty, students, as well as the Japanese half of EALC. I can't thank the faculty enough for being so kind and supportive, and for always encouraging and helping me to achieve my goals. In hindsight, I'm so glad I signed up for that traditional fiction class (CHN 130!) for GE credit way back in freshman year and ended up adding the Chinese major, because my college years would have been a completely different experience without it. Wish you all best of luck!
