Growing up in a bicultural household allowed me to be exposed to Chinese, but as my education progressed, my Chinese suffered. However, once I went to UC Davis and took CHN 1BL, my Chinese improved greatly. After taking a year of Chinese, I really wanted to continue my Chinese education and improve even more, but unfortunately, CHN 111 conflicted with a major class, so I was unable to do the minor as I had intended. Although I was unable to complete my minor, I don't feel that I've wasted my time, especially because the Chinese program was well organized and well taught by a collection of talented professors. The small class sizes allowed students to communicate easily with professors and the professors have been wonderful in regards to helping students individually. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat. I highly recommend taking classes from the Chinese program at UC Davis, especially those who want to learn or improve their Chinese. I'm so glad I had to privilege to take classes from this program and hope future students will do the same.
